The certificate for John Champion of West Tarring, Sussex, 14 October 1667

To the Wo[rshi]pp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices for the County of Sussex whome this may concerne
These are to certifie unto yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps that John Champion was a quartermaster in the Brigade of the right honnourable the Earle of Cleeueland untill hee was taken at the second Newberie fight and from thence carried to Peterhowse till an exchange came from Oxford. After w[hi]ch tyme hee faithfully serued Charles the first of blessed memory in the regim[en]t of S[i]r Thomas Hooper as leftent neuer desertinge his said Ma[jes]t[y]s Seruice till the disbandinge the Army in Cornwell (beinge dureinge the aforesaid tyme well knowne unto mee) in testimony whereof I haue heereunto sett my hand this Fourteenth day of October Anno regni r[egi]s Caroli s[e]c[on]di xix th Annoque dom[ini] 1667
