The certificate for James Corlesse of Winwick, Lancashire, Epiphany 1665

These are to certifie them whom it may concern that James Corlesse of Winwicke in the County Palatine of Lancest[e]r out of a sence of his duty and allegiance to his Majestys Royoll father, and to his Majesty that now is, hath during the late warrs, exposed himselfe to the vtmost hazard of life, losse of limbs and ruine of his fortune, and was in the defence of Lathom house miserably shott; the losse of the sight of one eye and ot[he]r blemishes evidently witnesse the truth hereof and the said James Corlesse was by his wounds disabled to worke and much impoverished by the vsurpinge powers neverthelesse hee continued faithfull in his trust and to his duty and deserted not the same by takeing vp armes against his late Majesty of blessed memory, or his Majesty that now is, or othe[r]wise, but hath beene constant in his loyalty notwithstanding the deepnesse of his sufferings; and that hee may not passe without some marke of favour and reward according to the gratious intention of his Majesty, in furtherance whereof wee could doe lesse then certifie these things vnder o[u]r hands.
