The certificate for Hugh Walter of Trinity College, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, July 1660

Theis are to certifie To all such p[er]sons of hono[u]r & others whome it may in any sorte concerne that Hugh Walter Clerke formerly of Trinity College in Cambride hath beene in the Militarie service of his late Sacred Ma[jes]tie Charles the first of ever blessed memorie, from the yeare 1642 vntill the end of the late Warrs in all w[hi]ch tyme he demeaned himselfe w[i]th Courrage becomeinge a Soldjer and at the first Newberry Fight was wounded in the head, and at Alesford on his arme afterwards as by such credible Scarrs and markes as on his Forehead and Arme doth appeare. And further that in the late Com[m]oc[i]on when Collnell John Lambert made his Escape, he the said Hugh Walter was very servicable to Collnell Roscetter and secured a party of ill affected p[er]sons whoe were goeinge to the said Lamberts appointed Randevowe; and from the first to the last hath demeaned himselfe in an orderly manner. In Testimonie whereof wee have subscribed our names.
