To the Wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Judg of the Sessions and other his Ma[jes]tyes Justices of the Peace Sitting at the Castle of Exon in the County of Deauon
Humbley Sheweth to your worshipes
Wee whose Names are heare unto Subscribed doe heareby certify that the bearer heareof Hugh Saxton of our said P[ar]ish of Northam As wee are Creadibelley informed was a soulger in the Seruice of his Ma[jes]ty King Charles the first of blessed memorey and tharre in did faithfulley Serue vnder the command of Collonell John Digbey at that time one of his Ma[jes]tys Commanders and for the sake of his Prince did Stick unto Not onley Suffered Imprisonment, but was obliged for to leaue his natiue Country the markes and scars which he Rec[eive]d in the said Seruice doe yet appeare vpon his decaying bodey who now being aged 92 yeares and in and during the last warre with the french to our Certaine knowledge hath lost Seuen Sonnes Stout and abell Seamen in the seruice of his pr[e]sent Ma[jes]ty King William the third and now is reduced to extreame pouertey and want Humbley prayeth your farther Assistance and your poore petitioner as in dutey bound shall for euer pray &c.
