The certificate for Hugh ap Hugh of Gwaenynog, Denbighshire, 6 January 1668

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll the Justices of the peace for and w[i]thin the County of Denbigh.

We whose names are hearevnto subscribed doe certifie vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]pps that (to the best of o[u]r perfect knowledges) the Bearer hearof Hugh ap Hugh of Gwaynog in the said County laborer was retayned a sould[ie]r for his Ma[jes]t[y]s service in the Regim[en]t of Coll[one]ll Hugh Wynne vnder the Com[m]aund of Capt[ain] Charles Chambres deceased before and at ye seige of the Citty of Chester where he received two grevious woundes, one on his face, and an other on his head, as it app[ear]eth, and there contynued for twenty two weekes during w[hi]ch tyme there and ellswhere he proved reall, faithfull, and a dilligent sould[ie]r in the said service wherefore the humble request of the Bearer (being a very poore man) is, that yo[u]r wor[shi]ppes wil be pleased of yo[u]r goodnes and charity to consid[e]r of his affection ever towardes his Ma[jes]ty, and his pr[e]sent indigencye, to admitt him q[ua]rterly pay out of the maymed sould[ie]rs mise, as to yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps pleasure shall seeme meete; and soe we take leaue & rest the
