To the Hono[u]r[a]ble Bench att the Castle of Exon

These are to Certifie yo[u]r Worsh[i]pps That the Bear[e]r here of George Potter of o[u]r p[ar]ish of Moretonhampstead in the said County of Devon aged 84 yeares: As wee are Credably Informed served his Maj[es]tie Charles the first of Blessed Memory ov[e]r England &c. Vnd[er] the Command of Colli[ne]ll Hugh Piper for three or fower yeares time in w[hi]ch service lyeing in the Cold field by night in the seige against Lyme & Tauton receuied such damage in his bodie that it is now filt in his bones being old. And that Richard Laskie of o[u]r p[ar]ish aged about seaventy yeares in the like service vnd[e]r the Command of Captine Courteny is decripted and become Impotent by meanes of the s[ai]d service and not able to help him selfe Wee therefore whose names are herevnto subcribed Humbly desire the Justices of this Hon[oura]ble bench to take it in to their serious Consid[e]rac[i]on that the s[ai]d George Potter and Richard Laskie may bee graunted o[u]r Maj[es]ties gracious pay towards poore Maimed sould[ie]rs and they will as obleiged ever pray for you.
