The certificate for Evan Gruffith of Llangernyw, Denbighshire, 14 July 1668

To ye Right wor[shipfu]ll the kings Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of the peace of the County of Denbigh
These are to certify yo[u]r wor[shi]pps That one Evan Gruffith of Llangernew in the afores[ai]d County did truely and faithfully serve his late Ma[jes]tie Kinge Charles ye first of famous memory in the late vnhappie warres as a souldier in my Regiment, in w[hi]ch s[ai]d service he rec[eive]d seu[er]all wounds & bruises & alsoe had & sustayned great losses by souldiers plundering him of all he had to his vtter vndoeing: And that he whilest he was able, did labour & take paines for ye maintenance of himselfe his wife & his family, he haveing litle or noething to subsist lefte him but what he gott by his industry & paines, And that now (by reason of old age dimnes of eyesight & weaknes of body by his form[er] wounds & bruises is altogether vnable to trauell or labour for ye maintenance of himselfe his wife & 6 children w[i]thout ye charity & benevolence of well disposed people, And furthermore That hee hath not des[e]rted ye said service, but continued all along firme & loyall to ye Royall cause as wittnes my hand this tenth day of Julii 1668.
