The certificate for Edward Burford of Longbridge Deverell, Wiltshire, 24 December 1649

These are to certifie any whome it may conserne that Edward Burford serued a com[m]on Trooper in my owne Troope & Regim[en]t vnder the commaund of the Late Earle of Essex from the third day of August 1643 and soe continewed in the said seruice by the space of twoe yeares in w[hi]ch tyme hee behaued himselfe as a loyall subjecte, And was wounded or receaued his woundes neare Broode Chake [sic.] by the forces then vnder the com[m]aund of Sir Fraunces Doddington By reason whereof hee is vnabled to gaine his liueliehoode by his calleinge or trade in considerac[i]on whereof my desire is that hee may be allowed A Penc[i]on towardes his main[t]e[na]nce as the Lawes and statutes of the Realme doth afford; Giuen vnder my hand this xxiiith of December 1649

This barer and souldier Edward Burford hath benn wounded in his lefte foote whereby hee is mayned [sic.] and disabled to Followe his calleinge wittens [sic.] my hand this day & yere first aboue written
