Certificate for Captain Robert Fiennes alias Clinton, Francis Willoughby’s Regiment, 8 March 1645

These are to certifie all whom it may concerne yt Captaine Robert Fiennes al[ias] Clinton Commanded a Troope in my Regiment of Horse consistinge of threescore besides Officers, & yt he raised this Troope att his Owne Charge, immediately after ye date of His Commission & furnished himselfe w[i]th six Horses as Captaine; W[i]thall w[hi]ch he hath done faithful service to ye Parliment And from ye time he raised them untill ye time he Lost them he hath beene personally w[i]th his Horses allowed him as Captaine & Troope upon all ye services in Lincolneshire; And afterwards was att ye siege of Newarke when Prince Ruperts army came to releiue ye Towne, where he himselfe was wounded his Owne Horses Armes Clothes & Mony taken by ye Enimye, His Troope part of them Cutt of in ye Charge ye Rest of them beeing Commanded by S[i]r John Meldrom to stay w[i]th ye Foote in Exiter House, was Stript by ye Enimye of their Horse, armes, & Clothes, & both Officers & Souldiers sent Holme naked; His Troope beinge att ye time aboue threescore Horse besides Officers was wholy lost; & since then he hath had noe Recruts Reparation or Satisfaction from ye State for those Losses; In Attestation hereof I set my Hand & Seale ye 8 of March 1644
